The President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Monday, stormed Osun State to secretly meet with Alhaji Sani Abubakar Dalandi, governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Taraba State.
Saraki was in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, to meet with PDP delegates ahead of the party’s presidential primary slated for Saturday in Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers State.
The APC governorship candidate had arrived the Danbaba Suntai Local Airport few minutes to Saraki’s departure from the state.
“After the arrival of the Senate President in a chartered aircraft 5NYZY, he drove straight to town. Some minutes after, Sani Dalandi drove in a black Toyota 2015 Camry and head straight to the VIP waiting room,” said a source who witnessed the meeting.
“After about 15 minutes, the Senate President returned and went straight to the VIP wing, while members of his entourage headed straight to a waiting aircraft for boarding.”
Another source said: “The meeting was very brief but no one was allowed to go close to the VIP wing, even staff of the airport were also restricted from the VIP wing while the meeting lasted.”
The APC governorship candidate is currently a Special Adviser to Saraki. He was appointed by Saraki in April this year to be the Special Adviser on Special Duties.
Dalandi emerged candidate of the APC in a primary election many stakeholders are asking to be cancelled, saying it was marred with irregularities and violence.
Eight of the 10 governorship aspirants in the Taraba State APC have already called for the cancellation of the primary, saying the election was characterized with hijacking of results and other electoral materials by secretariat staff working for two aspirants, Joel Ikenya and Danladi.
In September, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, said one of the presidential aspirants running under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was a mole planted by the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
Mr Wike said he made the discovery when a security chief serving the ruling APC government started campaigning for an aspirant who belong to the opposition PDP.
The governor had earlier stated that he was aware that the APC planted a mole in the PDP. The ruling party in return challenged the governor to name the mole they allegedly planted in the opposition party.
“We challenge Governor Wike to be brave enough and name the APC-sponsored aspirants among the crowd that have signified interest to run for the presidency under the PDP,” Mr Yekini Nabena, spokesman of APC said.
Detailing how he got to know, Wike said a serving security chief approached him requesting he support one of the aspirants of PDP to emerge the presidential candidate of the party. He declined naming the said security chief. The governor said this in an address with journalists at the government house in Port Harcourt.
“One thing you must take home is that I cannot be misled, I cannot be blindfolded; I know what’s going on. I know what the presidency and the APC are doing to plant a presidential aspirant in the PDP. I have not even mentioned how a very senior official of a security agency in the country told me which of the candidates to support. You can imagine me as a governor and the head of a security agency would tell me to support one or two persons. Head of security agency who is in a government controlled by the APC; come on! You direct me on who to support for president?”
The governor noted that he had not endorsed any of the PDP presidential aspirants ahead of Saturday’s Presidential primary election holding in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
