In a bold move to tackle unemployment and poverty in Ekiti State, Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, has successfully trained 1,900 youths and women in various vocational and entrepreneurial skills. The initiative aims to equip the participants with the tools to become self-reliant and contribute to the state’s economic growth.
Speaking at the closing of a three-day vocational programme in Ado Ekiti, Senator Bamidele emphasized that collaboration between individuals and the government is crucial in addressing unemployment. Represented by his Senior Legislative Assistant, Bunmi Oguntuase, the Senator highlighted key areas of training, including Make-Up and Barbing, Leather Works, Fashion Designing, Confectionery, Hairdressing, Soap Making, and Agriculture.
"Unemployment is directly tied to the rise in crime, and for us to combat this, we must provide our youth with the right exposure and skills to succeed," Bamidele said, noting that this initiative was a step toward building a more productive society.
The Senator also praised the country’s educational system for gradually integrating vocational and entrepreneurial courses into tertiary institutions to better prepare graduates for the 21st-century economy.
One of the trainers, Akanni Sanni of Akgen Solutions Limited, expressed confidence that the programme would have a positive impact on Ekiti’s economy within the next year.
