The ongoing feud between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has deeper roots than just the recent sexual harassment accusations. According to Ken Okolugbo, Akpabio’s Special Adviser on Communications and Strategy, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s anger began long before the public dispute.

In a recent appearance on Politics Today (Channels Television), Okolugbo revealed that Akpoti-Uduaghan had been secretly upset after being removed from her position as Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Local Content. This decision, coupled with the Senate seating dispute, escalated into a much larger conflict.

The tension reached a boiling point when Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Akpabio of sexual harassment, an allegation that was strongly denied. The fallout from the controversy led to her suspension from the Senate for six months.

Akpabio announced the suspension, citing that Akpoti-Uduaghan violated Senate Standing Rules and tarnished the reputation of the Senate. However, Okolugbo suggested a potential resolution could be a written apology from Akpoti-Uduaghan, warning that any advice against this might hurt her political future.
