“No Beef, Just Business: Dangote Reveals Why Trump Is Actually Happy With His $20bn Refinery”
📰
Alhaji Aliko Dangote has reacted strongly to viral claims suggesting that former U.S. President Donald Trump is unhappy with the launch of Africa’s largest oil refinery in Nigeria.
The speculation, which gained traction on social media, attempted to link Trump’s recent threats against terrorist groups targeting Christians in Nigeria to the operations of the $20 billion Dangote Refinery.
Speaking to the press, Dangote dismissed the narrative as false and misleading, stressing that the United States remains one of the refinery’s biggest crude oil suppliers.
“The talk that Trump is angry about our refinery does not hold water,” Dangote said. “The U.S. has been one of our major suppliers of crude. On average, we buy close to 100 million barrels annually from them. Why would he be unhappy?”
Dangote further highlighted the benefits Nigerians are already enjoying, noting that locally refined petrol is now available at cheaper prices and higher quality compared to blended imported fuel.
According to him, fuel importers who continue to rely on imports may incur losses, while Nigerians benefit from affordable, high-grade petrol refined at home.
“The choice is now clear,” Dangote added. “Nigerians can buy quality fuel at a lower price or choose imported blended fuel at a higher cost.”
With facts replacing rumours, Dangote’s message is clear: the refinery is not a global threat—but a national win.
The US has been one of our major suppliers of crude, which is why when someone says Trump is not happy with our refinery, it’s not true. Trump is more than happy with our refinery, because on average for a year, we do not buy more than 100 million barrels from the US.
