Naija news: APC Protests, As INEC Makes U-Turn, Announces PDP As The Winner Of The February 23 Election

On Monday afternoon, the All Progressives Congress (APC) have protested the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to overturn the inconclusive results of the Orlu/Orsu/Oru East Federal Constituency election (Imo State) and declaring Jerry Alagboso of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner.

The results were earlier declared as inconclusive by the electoral body but the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Professor Francis Chukwuemeka Ezeonu, has now declared Alagboso, as the winner. He said he decided to reverse the ruling because the Returning Officer did not properly follow the electoral guidelines before declaring the election inconclusive.

According to Daily Trust, Prof. Ezeonu said that the electoral guidelines clearly stated that areas where card readers were not deployed because of either violence or compromise should have zero returns.

He went on to say that some of the areas declared by the Returning Officer as inconclusive actually had results, while others did not which left INEC with no choice but to rethink and apply the stipulated electoral law.

The announcement by REC was met with uproar by supporters of the APC who accused the electoral body of bias.
