Elon Musk Unveils $30K Tesla Cybercab and Robovan at Robotaxi Event—Is the Future Here?
Elon Musk’s latest vision for the future of transportation was revealed at Tesla’s exclusive “We, Robot” event on Thursday night, where he introduced the groundbreaking $30,000 Tesla Cybercab and a larger autonomous Robovan. Musk teased that these self-driving vehicles could be available to consumers as early as 2027.
The Cybercab, a sleek, low, two-seater with no steering wheel or pedals, is part of Tesla's ambitious plan for driverless cars. Musk shared that Tesla already has 21 of these vehicles on-site, with hopes to produce the Cybercab before 2027. He also revealed plans for an electric Robovan capable of transporting up to 20 people—or cargo—catering to high-density needs like sports teams or deliveries.
In a move to make recharging effortless, both the Cybercab and Robovan will feature inductive charging, meaning they can charge wirelessly at special stations.
Musk also gave an exciting update on Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology, promising “unsupervised FSD” in select U.S. states by next year. FSD currently requires human supervision, but Musk envisions a “glorious future” where Tesla vehicles will drive autonomously, no hands on the wheel.
Despite years of unmet promises about driverless cars, Musk’s vision remains undeterred. He has been talking about autonomous vehicles for nearly a decade, setting ambitious timelines that have yet to be met—but he continues to assure investors and the public that the company is on track.
The night wasn’t just about cars. Musk also introduced the humanoid robot "Optimus," which he claimed would soon be serving drinks at the event. And yes, the robots even had their own dance party to wrap things up.
Are we finally on the brink of self-driving cars? Will you take a ride in a Tesla Cybercab when it’s available? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
