Shehu Sani Says El-Rufai Has No Political Relevance After Joining SDP
.
Civil rights activist and former senator, Shehu Sani, has weighed in on Nasir El-Rufai’s decision to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Sani, known for his outspoken views, argued that El-Rufai's political relevance has “eclipsed,” saying that his switch to the SDP “wouldn’t make any difference for someone with no political relevance anymore.”
In a statement on Monday, Sani suggested that El-Rufai’s move stemmed from fear, particularly in light of the return of several key politicians like Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi and former Governor Ramalan Yero to the APC, which he claimed had unsettled El-Rufai. He also expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani would be re-elected in 2027, despite El-Rufai’s defection.
El-Rufai, in response to his departure from the APC, stated that he would work with the SDP to challenge the ruling party in the upcoming 2027 elections. He also called on supporters to join the SDP to help make Nigeria "flourish as a beacon of pride for Africans and the Black Race."
What’s your take on El-Rufai’s move to the SDP? Will it shake up the 2027 elections, or is his political relevance truly gone? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
