Activist Omoyele Sowore drops a bombshell, alleging state officials tried to enlist him to convince the detained IPOB leader to abandon his legal standoff for a political future.
In a stunning revelation that throws the spotlight on the high-stakes political maneuvering behind the scenes of the Nnamdi Kanu trial, activist and Sahara Reporters founder Omoyele Sowore claims the Nigerian government approached him with an extraordinary proposal.
Speaking on Arise News, Sowore alleged that officials suggested he should personally intervene and tell Kanu to "enter his defense" in court.
🤝 The Proposed Deal: From Agitator to Politician?
But the alleged proposal came with a major condition, according to Sowore: Kanu was expected to promise to form a political party following his release.
“They even proposed to me that I should go tell him to enter his defense,” Sowore stated, underscoring what appears to be a desperate effort by the authorities to find a non-confrontational, political solution to the highly volatile separatist crisis.
❌ Kanu's Refusal: Sticking to the 'Biafra' Demand
Sowore's account suggests the government's aim was to redirect Kanu's massive regional influence away from separatist agitation and into mainstream democratic channels.
However, Kanu reportedly rejected this political exit ramp, choosing instead to maintain his non-cooperation stance and persistent demand for Biafra. Sowore argued this refusal, coupled with the Biafra demand, ultimately sealed Kanu's current fate and what he described as an "unjust incarceration," drawing a grim parallel to the historical victimization of figures like Ken Saro-Wiwa.
This entire episode throws the trial into sharp relief, suggesting the real battle over Kanu’s future is being waged far outside the courtroom.
❓ WHAT DO YOU THINK?
