Bandit Denies Receiving N30m, Vehicles from Zamfara Govt Peace Talks

Notorious wanted bandit leader, Bello Turji, has publicly denied sensational allegations that he was paid millions of Naira and given vehicles during peace negotiations with the former Zamfara State Government.

In a video now circulating widely, Turji sought to distance himself from financial motives, making the startling claim that he has "never possessed even N5 million" since he was born. According to the bandit, his criminal activities are "not for personal gain."

Turji’s denial comes in response to specific claims made by Musa Kamarawa, a former peace mediator who worked with both Sokoto and Zamfara state governments. Kamarawa had alleged that Turji received a total of N30 million and several vehicles during meetings with former Zamfara Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle (now Minister of State for Defence) at the Government House in Gusau.

In the viral clip, Turji vehemently refuted these claims, accusing Kamarawa of betraying the trust established during the dialogue process and giving a "false and mischievous testimony."

The bandit further attempted to distance himself from the political landscape, asserting that he was not acting on behalf of any politician or interest group. The controversy highlights the deep complexity and distrust surrounding attempts by North-West state governments to broker peace with armed groups.
